My vacation in a net shell people !!!

Hello my readers,

I am so sorry for not being an active writer over the last few days. You see I finally took a vacation after a long long time. My husband and I really needed a nice long break from our busy lives. So considering it is fall, we decided to go to Aspen, CO which is called the Switzerland of US and indeed it is !!!!

It is a beautiful place and those who haven't visited the place yet or have visited only in winter for skiing, you should definitely try going there in fall. And I will show you why by sharing some awesome pictures taken from my simple camera.

The best way to get to Aspen is to fly to Denver and drive there. There is a scenic route from Denver called the Independence Pass that takes a little longer to reach Aspen but it is totally worth it. You should drive that way at least one way of your trip. The other shorter route that takes only 4 hours is the I-70.
Aspen is a small town but has really cute shops and restaurants. I would suggest you stay at a place called Snowmass Village a little further from Aspen, it is simply beautiful there.

I call Pearls as women's best friend after diamond of course :)) It has been popular since a long time.. for many many years actually where the queens and kings of the yore had them in their jewelry closet..
Obviously those are the purest form of pearls which are not very abundant and affordable today.

Then came cultured pearls where the pearl is actually grafted and are a lot less expensive than natural pearls. I just love those..
I would pounce on freshwater pearls the moment I see them :))

My another favorite form of pearls are actually GLASS pearls which are not pearls. They are made of glass that is coated with nacre, the same material that coats a genuine pearl. I use them a lot in my jewelry designs since they give it has nice glow and are available in various colors. Plus they are a lot cheaper than the cultured ones. Swarovski probably has the best of these and if you plan to buy glass pearls I would suggest you buy the Swarovski ones....

So anyways I just wanted to write a few lines about Pearls and also show off some of my latest designs on them so here they are !!

For a while I've been wanting to create jewelry that is all metal and no beads in my designs; I would actually start making one but then end up adding a pearl or so some how I got a feeling that they look bald without anything .. LOL...

So anyways, now for the first time I present to you necklace that are all metal and they do look really pretty without any embellishments or additions, what do you think?? I decided to call them "Metallic-a"

A fun filled Summer Boutique at Irvine

Hello my readers,

I am a bit late in blogging about this but I wanted to share with you all that, Etsy artisans living in Southern California had a great time at what we called "Summer Boutique" in Irvine.

It was simple, an amazing lady Layna let us use her lovely home in Irvine to be used as a space area for a bunch of Etsians to display their goodies and pretties and have like an event/get together, basically host a "Boutique" !!!

There were different kinds of crafters from clothing artisans to hats, beach bags, jams and jewelry ones. It was a perfect blend so there was no
competition and the whole idea of this boutique apart from selling stuff was to have a good networking with other crafters,
your shop exposure and lots of learnings on how to sell.

I really appreciate Layna for her help and two other great ladies, Brooke and Kyla. Thanks to them for contacting me and letting me display my jewelry.
It was truly truly a fun filled exciting event. I was able to take a picture of me and Layna together and one more with me and my stuff.. check it out!!!

First Donation from Ganesh Emporium

Last week, I, on behalf of my friends and family and most importantly my clients without whom my shop would not even exist, made a donation to Red Cross of $100 to help the needy.
It may not be a big amount but I am sure it is sufficient to help at least one person who needs to be helped.

It feels good to do charity and I encourage all my friends to do as well....

I wanted to write about it and personally Thank all my Etsy customers, my Artfire customers and my friend Mai from ShopRuche who helped make this happen.

On another note about donation, I happen to read this quote/fun joke some where online and I thought it was cute.. =))
Thought I'll share with ya'll.

After a long time I logged into the Etsy Treasury to see where the list number was at and GUESS WHAT ??? I was LUCKYYY.. the list had just dropped below 333..

I was listening to the song "Raindrops and Roses..." from Sound of Music then ..
When the spot opened up, I was so excited I couldn't think of any title at that very moment and I had to be quick to lock the slot, so I entered "Raindrops and Roses" as the theme title. =)

But I was fun creating the treasury based on that theme and I even got a bunch of nice comments too..

Hello my blog followers and friends !!!

It is a great Saturday and the weather is just lovely here in California and I am sitting in my living room sipping tea and just relaxing... and also kind of showing off my new designs :))

I had been working on ideas for my spring line and after lots of design and re-design I have finally launched it !!!!
All the items are uploaded to my Etsy Shop if you want to check it out but I am also putting an image here to give you a little preview :)

This collection is special to me because it is my first ever "line or collection" where this is the first time I have designed something specific and it was fun working on. I am quite happy with the end product but I also would love to hear feedback and comments from you, so please keep dropping lines....

Little Birdie on my backyard, she likes her food...

Me and my hubby went shopping at Home Depot to get some plants for our backyard, after selecting a few, we then strolled in their garden section...
They had all kinds of interesting stuff including some cute bird feeders there... and so we decided to buy one... just for the fun of it, to see if it really does attract birds. We have a small pond in the backyard and we get birdie visitors sometimes who come by for a little drink ... so we thought why not serve food too?? =).

Anyways, we hung the feeder at an elevation and kept looking for birds but none showed up and then my hubby came up with this great idea of keeping the feeder near the pond instead of hanging on a branch and guess what we had our first visitor yesterday and luckily I could capture her on my camera... She is soo pretty, blue with brown lines... she made my day... =))
Of course I wanted to put her picture in my blog immediately and so here she is !!! I named her Birdie Blue... lol...

And why? :))
Because I have booked a slot under the "Jewelry Category" of Etsy to promote my shop items, trying to boost some Page Views if not a Sale.
Among the many methods that I have tried to promote my shop, this one I am gonna try out more. And why not? it costs only 7$ a day to feature your shop in the top category that gives a lot of exposure. I have noticed several times that people literally buy this spot every day to showcase their items and it seem to have worked. Not to mention buying the spot in itself is quiet a challenge :))
Anyways I hope this Sunday turns out lucky for me and wish for somehow a magical sale to happen and so... keeping my Fingers crossed.......

My first Etsy Treasury

Has anyone played with the treasury on Etsy? It is soo much fun, of course the difficult part according to me is to wait for the list to drop to 333.

I have been waiting for so many days to grab the 332 2nd place, I mean I would wait for the last one to expire and then if I come back a min later and it would be full again !!!!!

I think to get a spot itself is quiet challenging...

Etsy says Treasuries are not for Self Promotion and they recommend you to put only one of your items and I think it works so well because when you start to work on them you forget about the promoting aspect and naturally start using your artistic and creative skills by picking stuff from other Etsy shops to make a beautiful....treasury.....

When I got the spot I decided to make a colorful treasury because .. well.. i love colors...

Hello my readers,

What a great Sunday, It is so nice and sunny here in southern California .. a perfect weather after all the rain we had... plus the daylight savings time changes today.. I actually got up at 8 AM this morning and thought to myself, "wow it is sooo sunny at 8 today " only to realize that it was actually 9 AM !!! :))

So I finish up the morning chores and login to my Etsy shop to make some changes on the Appearance to highlight the ongoing SALE that I am having, and I thought why not spice the sale up a little bit. ??

I have 14 sales so far and I decided that my 15th Sale Buyer will not only get all the discount that is available right now BUT will also get an additional surprise gift... good stuff eh? :)

My new Vintage Collection.....

Hello Everyone,

I am back to blogging after almost 2 weeks of recovering from a wisdom teeth removal procedure.. I wonder why I recovered so slowly compared to the rest??? But I did enjoy the part where I could just ask my hubby to get me anything I want by my bed side.. :)

Well anyways, while I was trying to divert myself from the pain during the recovery process, I came up with some ideas for vintage designs for my new inventory and here it is...

My new vintage collection....

While designing them I didn't want to do the traditional vintage style so I tried to add a little newfangled touch to it...and I think I was able to achieve that balance.. but I would love for my followers to comment... :))

Spearmint Sauce, the Indian way

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited to post about this mint sauce that I made from home grown mint leaves. :) I am from India and so I mostly cook only Indian food at home. And Sunday is actually my cooking day where I try and experiment with stuff and my poor hubs is the victim of them :) not to mention that most of them come our pretty well.... :D :D

So anyways I get up in the morning and go to my backyard to water a few plants that we have and I see how well my mint plant has grown, They looked sooooo tempting, plus it was time for it to be trimmed too... so I took some leaves of the plant whose pic is here below....

And then get started on the sauce. Now this sauce is actually called "chutney" in the Indian language and is very popular in North India. It is extremely simple to make and here is how I made them, in case you readers want to try it out !!!

1. Take 50% mint leaves and 50% cilantro (1 cup)
2. Heat oil in a pan, add onions, red chilli - based on how spicy you want.
3. Add the leaves and fry for like 2 mins,
4. Put the mixture in a blender, add some water and 1/2 spoon of tamarind paste and Salt of course
5. Blend Blend Blend

And yay the sauce is ready !!!!!

Isn't it simple? just see how yummy it looks

I am a Vegetarian so I eat them with some veggie appetizers but for the meat lovers, here is the tip, it tastes the best with barbequed chicken as per my hubs...

Getting featured on Etsy Jewelry front page

I am sure many Etsians have had their shop featured on the front page of either Etsy.com or the category pages, but have you ever noticed that the slots are always FULL ???? Specially the popular ones like the home page and the jewelry page, I have been trying to get a slot on them for like forever and it was always full....

After multiple trys and almost giving up, I was finally able to find One !!! Yay, i was able to book a slot for today !!!! Feb 20th 2010. I must mention that after 2 refreshes on the showcase page after booking the slots were all GONE !!! WOW !!!

Well to think of it, why would it be available, it is offered at a very very reasonable price of $7 and it gives you the much needed exposure, and there are millions of Etsians wanting to grab it.

So on an ending note I want to say ETSY ROCKS !!!! =))

Ganesh Emporium is a philanthropist now !!!

Hi Everyone,

I have always grown up around people who told me that charity is not only a noble thing to do but, what ever you give, comes back to you in more than what you need. How true it is, I have always donated money to feed the poor family back in my country, it made me feel happy that some one out there can have a meal because of me.
Today I am more than happy with what life has given me, I have a great family, amazing job, good health, what else do we want yea? :)

When I decided to open my own shop on Etsy, I also decided that any sale that I make, 10% of the sale amount I am going to donate to a charitable Institute.
So here we are, Ganesh Emporium is proud to announce that it has chosen Red Cross to donate its portion of the proceeds, And as a contribution towards helping situation in Haiti, the proceeds will go to the Haiti Relief and Development Fund

This means that if you buy anything from Ganesh Emporium, you not only make a purchase but also make a contribution to the people in need of help in Haiti !!!

Picture Perfect: Snow capped mountain view

So I decided to add one picture that I really love once every week called "Picture Perfect", and this week the award goes to.... well a picture taken by me :) a view of the snow capped mountain taken from my back yard in Southern California, thats rt, a place where we hardly get to see snow. Of course there is Big bear mountain which is like the official snow destination for the southern californians, but I never thought I would get to see snow from my own back yard...

Hello Everyone,

So I recently added this great pair of earring on my shop....

but when I finished uploading all the stuff on the page, I felt like something was still missing, I checked the photos, the title and the description and everything possible. But still something looked incomplete...

When I started looking the pictures of my other earrings that I had taken earlier that day, I thought who ever owns this brown earring, MUST also have this one below...

Somehow I thought they paired well and that seem to fill the missing piece of the unknown puzzle going through my head. I had saved this earring for a "Giveaway" sometime later but then "Buy one get one free" is also a sort of a giveaway isn't it? :)

First Post for Ganesh Emporium

This is my first Post on this blog that I created to share everything from my hobbies/interests to my shop info/updates and my designs

First something about me:

I live in a city called Mission Viejo in California (also called the Sunny California) :) and I must say the weather here is really awesome and I love living here.

I love to paint and have even taken lessons on charcoal painting and acrylic painting and man it is not a simple job... :)

I loved jewelry right from my teen days and would buy anything I liked and thought was unique. And all this while I never thought of making one till I went to a Gem Faire near my place. It was the first time I was going to the faire and I was expecting a bunch of stalls selling all kinds of precious and semi-precious finished jewelry. BUT when I reached there my jaw dropped when I saw this gigantic hall filled with small stalls selling all kinds of beads, stones, pendants, finding and many more awesome stuff.

I bought just 2 strands of beads since I had no idea what I would do with it but I couldnt resist because they were that pretty...

I decided to learn to make jewelry and I made my first necklace with the beads that I bought. :)

I got so passionate about jewelry making that I ended up making several of them, each time my pieces only getting better (atleast thats what I thought :) ) and finally "Ganesh Emporium" on Etsy was born.

Something about my Etsy shop:
